Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. 2 Chronicles 20:15
What Do These Clients Have In Common?
-
A mother, desperate to cut the children’s father out of their lives, asks for help filing a restraining order -based entirely on lies.
-
A short-term spouse already receiving above-guideline support insists on filing a motion to get even more – specifically to cover Botox for herself and her teenage daughters.
-
A husband with $200,000 in retirement (earned entirely during a 15-year marriage) refuses to divide it, demanding we argue it’s his separate property.
All three of these clients had one thing in common: When I refused to do what they wanted, they yelled,
“You’re not fighting for me!”
Going To Court to Lose
Let’s be honest: If you hire a lawyer, you’re hiring a legal consultant -someone who understands the law and gives you guidance grounded in reality.
If your position is unreasonable, or worse, untenable , then you have no business going to court.
And if you do?
You’ll lose.
You may even get hit with sanctions—a court-ordered fine—for wasting the other side’s time and money.
Fighting the wrong battle will cost you far more than you expected.
Family Law Isn’t About Winning
Family law is unlike any other area of law.
You’re not suing a stranger – you’re untangling a life. There are children, shared homes, legacies, emotions.
And when a lawyer’s war cry is “I’ll fight for you!” it often ends with your family paying the price.
If I were going through a divorce, I’d be wary of any attorney whose promise is to “fight.” Fighting costs money.
Fighting destroys relationships. Fighting teaches your children that vengeance matters more than healing.
What matters most in divorce?
Wisdom. Peace. Integrity. Protection. Healing.
My purpose as a family law attorney is to guide clients through difficult transitions with as little destruction as possible. Read more in my Mission Statement.
Do Not Be Afraid
The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. Exodus 14:14
God fights the battles that matter most. Trust Him. Walk in truth. And choose counsel that leads you toward wisdom, not war.
