Safer At Home Los Angeles Response to COVID-19
As of 11:59 pm yesterday, March 19, 2020, Los Angeles is on lockdown pursuant to the Safer at Home Order 2020.03.19 issued by Mayor Eric Garcetti. Visit https://corona-virus.la/ for more information. Safer at Home is a Public Order Under City of Los Angeles Emergency Authority.
A few hours after Garcetti’s directive, Governor Newsom followed suit with his statewide Executive-Order-N-33-20
Duration
The Order is in effect until April 19, 2020, and it may be extended.
Safer at Home Summary
Los Angeles city residents MUST isolate themselves in their residences, subject to certain exceptions.
Subject to exceptions in paragraph 5, ALL businesses within the City of Los Angeles are ordered to cease operations that require in-person attendance by workers at a workplace.
All public and private gatherings of ANY number of people are prohibited, except as contained in paragraph 5.
All travel, including travel on foot, bike, scooter, motorcycle, automobile or public transit is prohibited, except as contained in paragraph 5.
EXCEPTIONS in paragraph 5
(i) First 24 hour allowance: Allow employees for the first 24 hours to go back to workplace to gather belongings and address administrative needs.
(ii) Essential Activities: Such as visit health or vet professional, obtain medical supplies or medicine, get groceries, pet supplies. Also, travel allowed for providing care for minors, elders, dependents outside City. Travel to residence outside city. Compliance of law. Legally mandated government purposes.
MUST maintain at least 6 feet distance.
Frequently washing hands with soap and water, covering coughs or sneezes into sleeve or elbow. Regularly cleaning high touch surfaces. NO shaking hands.
(iii) Outdoor activities like walking, hiking, running, cycling if maintain safe social distancing. All indoor and outdoor playgrounds CLOSED.
(iv) Work in Support of Essential Activities
(v) Care or support friend, family member, or pet.
(vi) Emergency Personnel like first responders, gang and crisis intervention, public health workers
(vii) Essential Activities Exempt like healthcare providers, grocery stores, food cultivation, food providers; newspapers and media; gas stations; banks, credit unions; hardware and supply’ plumbers electricals, service providers; businesses providing mailing and shipping; educational institutions IF safe distance is maintained; laundromats; dry cleaners; restaurants; work from home suppliers; utility companies; shippers or deliverers of food; airline, taxi and ride sharing for essential activities; home-based care for disabled, seniors adults and children; Professional services such as legal, payroll, accounting when necessary to assist in compliance with legally mandated activities; childcare facilities etc etc.
