“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” Romans 1:16

Jesus

I trust nobody but Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.

He said “It is finished“.

He conquered the FINALEST thing on earth – death – and by doing that, He gets the final word and authority on all things.  He rose from the dead, and there are eye witnesses.  So I have hope.  (Incidentally, I have hope for all of your marriages.  Divorce isn’t nearly as final as death.  Jesus conquered death; certainly a broken marriage is merely a mustard seed away from healing).

I have miraculously witnessed divorcing couples reconcile. Not by power, not by might, but by the Holy Spirit.

God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it.  Acts 2:32

Testimony

My family immigrated from Taiwan when I was about 6 years old.

Below is a picture of me in school in Taiwan (left) and then in Texas, where I grew up. (right)Jesus came into my life when I was about 7 years old, at the Church of Christ in a small Texas town.  My mother (who didn’t speak English) felt so welcome at this little church.

Every Saturday, Mary Lou (pastor’s wife) would give my mom sermon notes so she could study it and understand it prior to Sunday morning.

One of my earliest memories was during communion, Mary Lou’s tears pouring down from her face as she took the bread to the lips.  I didn’t understand why, but the moment was extremely moving for a 7 year old.  I still remember it.

Never Take Your Eyes Off the Cross

Pastor Alistair Begg said this:

If I take my eyes off the cross, I can then only give lip service to its efficacy, while at the same time living as if my salvation depends on me.

And as soon as you go there, it will lead you either to to abject despair, or a horrible kind of arrogance.

And it is only the cross of Christ that deals both with the dreadful depths of despair and the pretentious arrogance of the pride of man that says, you know, I can figure this out and I’m doing wonderfully.

NO, because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free for God that just is satisfied to look on Him and pardon me.

That is why Luther says most of your Christian life is outside of you, because in this sense that we know that we are not saved by good works, we are not saved as a result of our professions, but we are saved as a result of what Christ has achieved.

Not Enough

Like many of you, I got tired of life.  I got tired of having everything and longing for more.   For a long time, my eyes were not on the cross.  It still happens!  And every time I take my eyes off the cross and do it on my own, I fall into abject despair or horrible kind of arrogance.

Which is why Christians are SO hated, because inevitably, our sinful nature takes our eyes off the cross.

This verse spoke to me.

“When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.”

Do You Want the Truth?

In a world full of “your truth” and “my truth“, don’t you yearn for truth?  And I found it, in the Bible.

I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.  John 14:6

It makes me sad that the truth is being twisted out there.  Some have even tried to label the Bible hate speech.

Speak Truth in Love

In Ephesians 4, Paul writes,

“Speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ” (Ephesians 4:15).

Rather than be spiritually immature and easily deceived, we are called to speak the truth in love, so that we can all grow in maturity.

If you are reading this, I pray that before you file for divorce, or continue in despair, you will read the Bible, which contains the truth about everything.

Don’t believe anything you listen, hear or read on the internet (including my blog!).  Be like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, who

“received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”
